WBP - George I - Part 2 - Moment of truth!
Today I cut out one of my garments out of my real fabric! Took me about 10 minutes to gear myself up finally make the first cut but I did it!
I came in to the sewing workshops today because a) my knees are dead from pattern cutting on the floor and the workshops have lovely cutting tables and b) I didnt want to get dog hair all over my lovely expensive silk.
It turns out that I bought WAAAAAY too much silk so could probably have saved myself a few pennies but its there incase I make a massive mistake (not that that will ever happen...)
I layed all my pattern pieces out in the most economical way I could find and got out my rotary cutter. Nearly chopped my finger off a few times but who needs those anyway? I started to construct
my jacket. I'm still waiting for my tailors canvas and my lining fabric but I could only make it up so far but I'm super please with what I managed to achieve today!
After a press I think it looks rather good, if I do say so myself!
Next up is a LOT of hand sewing. There are nearly 50 buttons and button holes on this coat alone. Each of the button holes are surrounded by braid which is a technique I've not seen before but hopefully it will all work out!
